Our Story
In 1998, a handful of families were looking to make a change from their current church to something more aligned with their vision. As they sought the Lord about finding a new church, they were introduced to a small homeschool group where they connected with other like-minded families. And a tiny home church was born. They grew to love this simpler way of serving God and men.
What began as a home church grew into a thriving little congregation – and Glory Christian Fellowship (GCF) was born.
GCF rented a small senior center in Oakland, Iowa for several years (2003-2006) as we reached out to the locals with God’s love and care.
While we loved the town of Oakland, we felt the Lord leading us to plant our church in a different community. Through our search, we discovered the small rural town of Griswold, Iowa.
Immediately, we knew this was where God wanted us.
God was there for every step of our church’s journey. He provided a tiny storefront building on main-street Griswold for the churchhouse.
The owner allowed us to remodel the building to suit the church’s needs. She graciously paid our utilities, allowing us to remain there almost rent-free. Sadly, she passed away several years later and her sons graciously donated the building to our church.
Talk about God-given!
As our church continued to grow, we realized our tiny storefront building wasn’t big enough.
A rural Methodist church approached the pastors to ask if they were interested in purchasing their old country church. It was a hard decision to relocate out of Griswold, but we knew our storefront church wouldn’t be able to accommodate our growing needs.
God was expanding our outreach areas to three communities instead of one!
We were able to sell our storefront building, giving the church capital to make some needed repairs on the new church house.
God has blessed and guided each and every step we’ve taken. And we’re so grateful!
